Rethinking sensors

Hey Fellas!

We are rethinking some aspects of how we are going to receive the data from the plants in our installation and we have a slightly new idea of how this will work. Because we don’t want to worry about having a computer running in our installation we cannot use processing, only Arduino. Since we won;t be using processing, we won’t be using Disney’s Touché library. 

We will use only Arduino and capacitive sensors to get simple responses from the plants (ON/OFF). Also, to have different samples of audio, we will need to upload our files to an SD Card and put that in a mp3 shield for Arduino.

With one capacitive touch sensor, we can get responses from up to 12 plants. The idea is to combine the states of 2 or more plants and create different sounds.

Ex: If plant 1 is ON && plant 2 is OFF, play track 1.

If plant 2 is ON && plant 1 is OFF, play track 1.

If plant 3 is ON && plant 2 is ON, play track 2.

ESTIMATE COSTS (per 10 plants):

  • Arduino Uno – $ 25,00
  • Breadboard – $ 5,00
  • Capacitive touch sensor Breakout – $ 5,00
  • mp3 shield for Arduino – $ 30,00
  • TOTAL: $ 65,00
