Computational Portraiture Project – Meet Adam


PROJECT BRIEF: Create a computational portrait.

CONSTRAINT: The portrait must portray a person, in an environment conveying something about them that is not visible to the eye.

INSPIRATION: While trying to think of someone to take a portrait of, I decided to go downstairs to grab a coffee at the breakfast truck that parks in the corner of Broadway X Waverly Pl. As usual, I exchanged a few words whit the man who owns the truck. Nothing special, very superficial conversation. While walking back to school I caught myself thinking about this man. Someone that I see everyday but that I know nothing. That was where the idea for my project was born. I decided I wanted to tell the story of this street vendor. Besides not knowing anything about him, I was very intrigued by the fact that his figure is so attached to his truck and to the corner where he parks everyday.

THE PROJECT: A 3D environment where Adam, a street vendor, stands beside his food truck in the corner he has been selling bagels and coffee over the past 15 years. The scene is composed by 3D models of Adam and his truck (photogrammetry technique) and 360 photos of the street and of the inside of the truck. User is invited to walk around the scene, exploring every detail of the man, his truck (inside and outside) and his corner while listening to his stories.

TECHNIQUES/SOFTWARES: Photogrammetry, Photoscan, Unity, Meshmixer.
